THE DOWNLOAD ON BURDOCK ROOT

In my last blog I talked about  my personal ongoing spring liver cleanse and gave my own recipe of loose herbs to create a liver detox.  As we should all be aware the SPRING is know as LIVER SEASON in Chinese medicine.  Also in Chinese medicine the liver is known to rule SKIN, JOINTS AND ANYTHING TO GO WITH THE EYES.  So automatically if you are noticing, break out, eczema, psoriasis, acne or rashes on the skin --your body is crying out to you. If you experience arthritis, joint pain, cracking joints, knee or shoulder pain or stiffness- HELLO AGAIN!! Or, any eyes problems, spots dancing, floaters, pink eye, swollen eyes, itchy eyes....ITS YOUR LIVER CALLING, ARE YOU HOME????  Even if you have none of these ailments, the liver most me cared for in the most delicate way as it rules the body.  Aside from our brain, the liver is King and the large intestines and colon are Queen and known as our "second brain".  For todays blog I want to focus on an herb or vegetable you might have seen at the grocery store or have some familiarity with, but often people I talk to have heard of it, even know what it looks like--but have never actually used it or know anything about its amazing healing qualities.  And the todays winner is ......BURDOCK ROOT.
Burdock has been used for centuries to treat a host of ailments.  It has been traditionally used as a "BLOOD PURIFIER" to clear the bloodstream of toxins, as a diuretic by increasing urine output.  In Japan and some parts of Europe, burdock is eaten as a vegetable and recent studies confirm that burdock has prebiotic properties that can improve health. In particular the endocrine system and as a liver tonic. It can be eaten, but I prefer to get burdock root in fresh dried form (available at most chinese grocery stores or on line.  I have seen it in my local area, so you might ask your local health food store or go online).  If you don't have time or money to get all of herbs listed in my last liver detox blog, you can simplify it down to 2 herbs.  Burdock root and saspirilla .  These two when taken together in a tea is a very powerful  liver tonic.  I highly suggest doing this tea for at least one month during the spring/summer months.  And please give your liver a break, it needs it!!  Much more about the grave importance of the liver and how to cleanse and support it.   I am all about the liver right now.  stay tuned!!

MY SPRING DETOX FORMULA

I am responding to many call about what type of herbs are best for the spring cleansing period.  I am in the midst of a liver, whole body cleanse and here is what I am personally using.  I am using all certified and organic loose herbs by the pound which I find more effective than capsules of tinctures.  If you absolutely don't have the time to get the fresh herbs, tinctures are second best way to go.
1 part Marshmallow root
1 part Burdock root
1 part Dandelion root and leaf
1 part Milk thistle
1 part Wild cherry bark
1 part Burplerum ( not an absolute but is know in chinese medicine as the the number one liver cleanser/tonic)
1 part Chickweed

simmer for 10 minutes and sip through out the day.  I make one large batch and keep adding to it.  Every 2 days, I discard and start fresh.

The herb company I ordered my bulk herbs from is called STAR WEST  BOTANICALS.  But people in the hartford area, there is a wonderful health food store in Bloomfield called LIMS HEALTHFOOD in the Copaco center near home depot--- and they have all the medicinal herbs in bulk and are very helpful.  Just bring in this list and they will be able to help find all of these ingredients.  I love to support them because they are local and small business.  xoxo

CONFUSION ABOUT TOXINS, LETS GET CLEAR

So many clients say to me, "I eat a healthy, an organic diet, don't smoke, don't drink,
so how toxic can I really be?????????"  So let clarify the many ways we are exposed to deadly toxins on a daily basis shall we?????
Toxins are found is *AIR *FOOD* WATER* PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS* YOUR HOME and countless other places,  but for now lets just focus on these.

There are 2 types of toxins, ENDOGENOUS TOXINS (which are found and produced within the body)  Parasite, yeast, fungi, viruses all contribute to these type of toxins being released within the body and which are being produced every single day within our bodies.
EXOGENOUS TOXINS are found outside the body.  Did I mention, that our negative emotional feelings can also cause the production of toxins????

Some commonly found exogenous toxins found in almost every body care products are:
Sodium laurel sulfate, triclosan (found in antibacterial products), parabens (Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, p-Propylparaben, Butyparaben and Benzylparaben), mineral oil, petroleum, Diethanolamine DEA, Cocamide DEA, Lauramide DEA, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, talc, lanolin...just to name a few.  For homework look in you bathroom and kitchen and see how many products you find that contain one or more of these ingredients, you will be shocked.

Another category of toxins is the TOXIC HEAVY METALS-   The most toxic are ALUMINUM, MERCURY, LEAD, CADMIUM&  ARSENIC.  And they are often found in the most unlikely of places for example.....

*Aluminum is found in antacids, antiperspirants, many baked goods and paint

*Mercury is found in dental amalgams ( silver fillings), fish, vaccines, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, electrical wiring

*Lead is found in old lead pipes, paint, unglazed pottery

*Cadmium is found in industrial processes, mining, batteries

*Arsenic is found in cigarette smoke, rodent poison, insecticides, pesticides.

So not to be a debby downer.  It is a friendly reality check that of coarse healthy lifestyle and eating is supper important,  but is only ONE part of the battle.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID ALL OF THE TOXINS AND LIVE IN BUBBLE.
But we can reduce as many as possible by being more conscious and DETOX, DETOX, DETOX. The more we detox, the more we can combat the negative forces of toxins and live a longer, healthier life.  We don not have to accept the ravages of age.  I myself just turned 40 and seriously look younger than when I was 20.  AND I KNOW THAT IS FROM DETOXING 100%.
On side note, I had a facial last week and the asethetician   said she couldn't believe how much elasticity and how my skin glowed and that there we no AGE SPOTS.  I laughed, because I know that age spots are nothing but LIVER SPOTS from an overtaxed liver.  We can take charge of our health and beauty.  PLEASE, JOIN ME PLEASE.   NAMASTE

THE BEAUTY OF COFFEE ENEMAS

As a colon therapist I have tried anything and everything related to colon cleaning and detoxification.  Although I have done wheat grass enemas, medicated ayurvedic enemas, lemon enemas and many others, the organic coffee enema is still my favorite and most effective form.  If you are interested in detoxing your body and liver in a relatively easy- natural, at home method, consider using coffee enemas as a great alternative. What make the coffee enema so effective is  the presence if caffeine, theobromine, theophyilline and other natural components. When the coffee is introduced into the body, the thin tissue surrounding the anus allows the body to quickly absorb the coffee into the bloodstream and provide quick and effective benefits.
Another great benefit of the coffee enema is the aid in liver  function. Since coffee is also a stimulant, it will reach the liver directly through the hemorrhoidal vein in the process of a coffee enema. This greatly speeds up the detoxification process and the coffee will draw any compacted matter and toxins in our intestines and lower bowel.
Many individuals choose to take undertake coffee enemas once or twice a week...but I have done them as many 3-4 times a week or even more during any type of cleanse or at the change of the season. Clients of mine have seen huge improvements in their health, skin, allergies, weight ect.
If you are planning to do a coffee enema, organic coffee is best and always use water that as close to body temp. as possible, as you do not want to shock your system.  I will posting more later about how to do an enema, but there is much great info on the web and curezone.com  Be well my lovelies.

LIVER CLEANSING WITH DANDELION ROOT

The dandelion has been a staple of the traditional herbal pharmacopeia for centuries. In Europe, the dandelion is still well respected as the nutritional and medicinal powerhouse that it is and here in the US we are beginning to rediscover the benefits of dandelion and dandelion root in our diets.
Among other things, dandelion root and other plants of the dandelion have been used as a gentle laxative, digestive aid, to treat liver and kidney problems and to relieve inflammation, boils, fevers and diarrhea. It also greatly aids in healthy digestion. While the dandelion is still regarded as a noxious weed here in the US, in Europe dandelion greens are often added to salads and is highlt regarded as a healing food.

Dandelion root provides vitamin A, C, D and B complex, as well as zinc, iron and potassium. Because of its iron content, it is widely usedas a remedy for all liver ailments and has a diretic effect that can help rid the liver of toxins. Some other benefits of the herb are:

*Treatment of anemia
*A mild laxitive and promotes regularity
*Lowering cholesterol
*Because of its positive effects on the liver and digestion, dandelion root may help boost the effectiveness of other vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

It can be eaten raw, a tea can be brewed of the loose leaves and root, a tincture form, or in capsules. I believe the tea or the tinctute form is the most effective way. The spring /summer season is the perfect time to do a 2-3 week interval of 30 drops of the tincture 2 times a day. This may be less work than brewing the loose leaves, but by all means if you prefer this method.....I encourage you to do so. Nothing beats the potency and power of the herb and root itself....however the tincture is a close second in my book. Till next time.

DO I THINK 100% RAW IS THE ANSWER FOR EVERYONE??

I have been asked my opinion about this question several times a day in addition to people asking me if I am 100% raw.....and the simple answer to  both of these questions is NO.  I DO NOT think a 100% RAW diet is appropriate for ALL PEOPLE, 100% of the time.  There are many factors that play in to the decision and the largest one is the LOCATION  of where the people lives. If a person lives in BALI, where fresh tropical fruits and vegetables grow year round and there is ample supply of in season coconuts, avocados ect.. then the person may thrive beautifully on a mostly raw, or 100% raw diet year round.  However is the person lives in Northern Canada for example, and fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits are much harder to come by and in addition it is a very cold environment, an all raw diet may be depleting and too cooling for the person. So my answer is to this is on average 70% of my diet is raw, 30% cooked foods in the fall in winter.  And as spring and summer roll around, I aim for a higher ratio, (between 80-90%) however I always listen to my body to hear what it is saying.  If I am craving some cooked foods then I listen.  No matter what diet you are drawn to, the reason for doing it is to feel vibrant and in balance, so if somethings working or not...you may nee to adjust it a bit to make it right for you.  ALWAY TUNE IN TO YOURSELF, if you listen carefully enough your body will lead you in the right direction.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF KUZU

In the east, kuzu, a member of the legume family, has enjoyed an excellent reputation and has been part of he cuisine of China and Japan for than 2000 years. The starch that makes kuzu an outstanding jelling and thickening agent in cooking is partly responsible for its medical action. Some of Kuzu's complex starch molecules enter the intestines and relieve the discomfort by over acidicity, bacterial infection and in the case of diarrhea, excess water. In many cases of abdomonial aching and intestinal irritation, a cup of kuzu tea brings quick relief, particularlyor children who do not like the taste of over the counter stomache medications. It is to superior to anyting sold over the counter, like immodium, ect. with out any side effects.
According to SUbhuti Dharmanada Phd, Institute for Traditional Medicine in Portland Oregon, Kuzu contains a very high concentration of flavonoids, which are responsible for its stron medicinal effects on the digestive track and circulatory systems.

For acute conditions use one heaping teaspon of kuzu in Kuchicha twig tea. This a tradtional macobiotic recipe, but you can use any type of herbal tea. Kuzu can be ordered online but can also me purchased at your local whole foods or heath food stores. Peace

A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER BY MICHIO KUSHI

I don't know if everyone knows the name of this great man, but Kushi is known as the father of MACROBIOTIC EATING.  I m studying his book "THE BOOK OF MACROBIOTICS": The universal way of health, happiness and peace....and I came across this beautiful prayer that I think speaks volumes about life and how we need to be grateful for all that we are given, even in illness and despair....it can be our greatest teacher.
I speak from experience.  I know that the most challenging things that I have personally struggled with particularly around my health challenges, has brought me so much wisdom, that I have nothing but gratitude to the universe...and yes, I need to remind myself  and you all of the great importance of having grace and gratitude for all that we are dealt in life.  This a beautiful prayer that I think reminds us of this so eloquently:  AND HERE IT GOES:

I am grateful to my parents and ancestors,
I am grateful to my spouse and partner,
I am grateful to my children and offspring,
I am grateful to all people and all beings.

I am grateful to the foods I am given,
I am grateful to the nature that I am within,
I am grateful to the universe in which I manifested,
I am grateful to all phenomena and all beings.

I am grateful to my ILLNESS,
I am grateful to my ignorance,
I am grateful to my enemy,
I am grateful to my difficulties,
I am grateful to my suffering.

I am nothing, yet, I have been given all,
Therefore, I  am rich, equal to the whole universe.

I am endlessly grateful to my being here and now.

RAW SPIRIT FESTIVAL SUMMER 2009

For anyone looking for something amazing, fun, spiritual, healthy and wildly exciting....check out www.rawspiritfestival.com.  Its all about dance, meditation, art, live foods demonstrations, education about the raw movement.  I plan on checking the one out in SANTA BARBARA, CA but there are 3 locations happening this summer.  I Can't wait.  Hope you'll join me.

MAKE YOUR OWN SEED AND NUT MILK

I use seed and nut milk instead of creme or dairy milk.  The following is my favorite recipe:  This is so much more healthy than ANY soy or rice milk you find in the store.  Most of the store bought varieties have added sugar and many other unnecessary  ingredients. ITS SO  EASY AND SO DIVINE.

2 tbsp Raw shelled sunflower seeds
12 whole Raw almonds with skin
1 tbsp Whole Sesame seeds.

Grind to a very fine powder ( with a coffee grinder or food processor) then put into a blender with 1 cup warm filtered water and tbsp raw organic honey and blend on high for 2-3 minutes  Its now ready to serve.  YUM.
This is a basic recipe and can be varied according to taste.  If you want it thicker use less water.  This is delicious over a breakfast of sliced bananas, soaked  mission figs and soaked raisons, with a few slivered almonds or walnuts on top.

MEDICINAL USES OF TEAS IN MACROBIOTIC HEALING

All traditional cultures and civilizations have relied upon natural ways of healing and some of these methods are more effective than modern medicine, without producing any side effects. They are also more economical  than the modern way of treatment.  Some example of the medicinal uses of common foods that have used traditionally for many centuries in Far Eastern countries are as follows:  The 3 teas I am going to mention are widely used  in macrobiotic healing and I personally have tried all and find them to be extremely powerful healers...

LOTUS ROOT TEA: Helps to relieve coughing and dissolves excess mucous in the body. Grade one half cup fresh lotus root, squeeze the juice into a pot and add a small  amount of water.  Cook 5 to 8 min, add a pinch of celtic sea salt or tamari soy and drink hot.

SHIITAKE MUSHROOM TEA: Used to relax an overly tense, stressful condition and helps dissolve excess fats in the body.  Soak a dried black shiitake mushroom cut in quarters. Cook in 2 cups of water for 20 minutes with a pinch of celtic sea salt.  Drink half a cup at a time.

TAMARI BANCHA TEA: Neutralizes an acidic blood condition, promotes blood circulation and relieves fatigue.  Pour one cup of hot bancha twig teas over 1 teaspoon tamari.  Stir and drink hot.

For a comprehensive guide to medicinal foods and healing please see MICHIO KUCHIS MACROBIOTIC HOME REMEDIES, edited by Marc Van Cauwenberghe MD (Tokyo, NEW YORK: JAPAN PUBLICATIONS, 1985)

EATING WITH THE SEASONS

If you want food that's good for your health, kind to the environment and busting with flavor---then reconnect with the seasons.  Seasonal foods brings variety to our plates.   Its important to eat a wide range of different foods to ensure we get all the different nutrients we need.  Growing and raising seasonal foods encourages traditional agricultural methods, biodiversity and a better environment.  Plus, it promotes better tasting foods. When you see a tomatoes in the store in the middle of winter, keep in mind these are not "natural" and by purchasing them you're compromising taste and the health of our planet.  So the answer is  EAT WITH THE SEASONS

SPRING: This is the time for tender, leafy vegetables. The green new growth that blooms in the spring time should be represented my the greens on your plate, including Swiss chard, spinach, romaine lettuce and fresh herbs like parsley and basil. Also enjoy asparagus ( the worlds most alkaline food), cabbages, cauliflower, fennel, grapefruit and navel oranges.

SUMMER: Enjoy light, cooling fruits like strawberries, pears, plums, apricots, blackberries, nectarines, peaches, limes and melons.  Vegetables like summer squash, broccoli, cauliflower, red onions, cucumbers and fresh corn.  Spices like peppermint and cilantro are great choices.

AUTUMN:  Go for warming autumn harvest foods like carrots, onion, garlic, grapes, Valencia oranges, Asian pears. Emphasize the more warming spices and seasoning like ginger, mustard seeds and peppers.

WINTER:  Most root vegetables, including carrots, beets, rutabagas, onions, leeks, parsnip, pumpkin, turnips, brussel sprouts, garlic and nuts. Enjoy lemons, mandarins, tangerines, broccoli and grapefruit.

THINK GLOBAL, SHOP LOCAL FOR YOUR FOODS IN SEASON.  PACHU MAMA AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE THANKING YOU!!!!!!!

THE ANCIENT SUPERFOOD OF THE AZTECS

A new super food product I just connected with is called MILA, the miracle seed.
Its 100% raw sprouted CHIA SEED and what a difference it has made in my digestion, overall energy and health.  Mila is a proprietary selection of SALAVIA HISPANICA L- a uniquely beneficial seed a complete food by the FDA and backed by almost 20 years of scientific and agricultural research.  MILA contains the highest levels of nutritional components- Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytonutrients.  As an added benefit, Mila is gluten free, trans fat free, sugar free and high in fiber and protein.  Mila  can be deliciously combined with a variety of foods and its supreme biological properties are not diminished by heat in the cooking process.  Mila is one the world's healthiest whole foods.  It tastes like flax meal, so it can be sprinkled on salads, put into to a smoothie or even eaten by the spoon full. WARNING.. because of its extremely high fiber content, make sure you are getting enough water in daily until your body gets used to it.  If you don't, you may get a bit constipated and that its no good.  Just another incentive to  drive home the point, we need more water in our diet anyways, so heres another reason why..........

THE BLESSINGS OF COCONUT WATER

Did you know that coconut water has 20 times the electrolytes found in the leading sports drink?....minus all the junk and sugar.

Did you know that coconut water has more potassium than two bananas?  Potassium keeps your body properly hydrated and prevents cramping.

Pure coconut water is undeniably the most nutritious and delicious beverage you could ever ask for.  When I was down in BRASIL, this is what I lived on.  But happily I saw that WHOLE FOODS is not carrying the VITA COCO brand which is imported from brasil.  It is 100% fresh young coconut water with nothing added.  It is all about hydration and your cells and skin will sing after trying coconut water for about a day or two. After life is the most strenuous sport there  is... so we might as well give ourselves all the electrolytes and minerals we can in the most joyous and enjoyable way we can, and I SAY COCONUT WATER IS IT.  And as a side note coconut water can be used as a cooling enema for PITTA TYPES.  If anyone has questions about this, email me or ask here on the blog.  LIVE ON

DOES ANYONE STILL CRAVE MAC & CHEESE??

If you are like me, and many of my clients, we have all made the health commitment to go GLUTEN/WHEAT FREE and DAIRY FREE.  And the first thing that come to mind for me was, "OHHHH MY GOD NO PIZZA AND NO MORE MAC AND CHEESE??"  Ok so yes, I still have the same love of these comfort foods as when I was a kid, but the wonderful news is that we don' t have to deprive ourselves of either of these things anymore.  I will get back to you with my DIVINE NECTAR  GLUTEN FREE PIZZA.... today I want to share with you a quick recipe that combines my love of RAW LIVE FOOD  and cooked food.  It is quick and satisfying, give it a try.  The LIVE/CHEESE SUBSTITUTE which I like to call RAW-MESIAN.
In  a food processor grind organic walnuts and sunflowers to a fine texture.  Add equal portions of nutritional yeast and celtic sea salt to taste.  Seriously thats it.  You can keep this in a glass jar with shaker top and keep in the fridge and use on anything and everything.

Now for the pasta.  Take any brown or white rice paste( and yes, I prefer brown over white 100 times).  Once cooked, drain and while still warm, add ample amounts of the RAWMESIAN, a hint of braggs amino acids for extra taste and stir.  Add enough of the RAWMESIAN to create a creamy cheese like texture. And enjoy.  Love on, Live on, Dance on.  Peace beautiful ones.

GET YOUR GREEN ON, GREEN DRINK

By consuming a green smoothie, you are blending the greens- which in essence is "predigesting" the greens. Many of the important nutrients in greens are encased inside the plants cells and getting their benefits requires these cell walls to be ruptured. So blending allows these foods to be ingested as a whole vegetable with their fiber in tact (as opposed to juicing), so you feel full and are able to absorb the maximum amount of nutrition from your greens.
So go ahead and GET YOUR GREEN ON PEOPLE.

1 1/2 cups filtered water
1 head of romaine lettuce chopped
3 or 4 stalks of organic celery
2 organic apples, cored
1 organic banana
1/3 bunch of organic parsley
1/3 bunch of organic cilantro
juice from 1/2 lemon

Add water and lettuce to high speed blender.  Start on low, mix until smooth. Move yo higher speed and add apples, celery and herbs...add banana and lemon last. LIVE WELL AND BE HAPPY

MONDAY AM DETOX SMOOTHIE INSTEAD OF A CUP O JOE

Try making this detox smoothie for breakfast to start your week off feeling more cleansed and refreshed.  Or better yet, try for 3 days during the week for a nice liver booster. The lemon and oil help restore the liver, while the turmeric is full of antioxidants and anti microbial properties and is an amazing blood purifier. The cleaner the blood the more beautiful the skin.

DIVINE NECTARS REJUVENATION SMOOTHIE

2 organic pears (seeded and cored)
2 organic apples
3 Tbsp flax oil

THE WONDERS OF CELTIC SEA SALT

OK so we all know that it's best to skip the white table salt---but did you know that there is salt out there that not only will satisfy the salt cravings but also give you many of vital minerals and nutrients that our body is craving and often times is depleted in.  The answer is CELTIC SEA SALT.  Why celtic sea salt???  It is recommended by many health professional and culinary chefs. It's no surprise why. Celtic Sea Salt brand ( which is available at more quality  health food store and online)  It is hand harvested and dried n the sun and wind.  It contains no caking agents, bleaching agents or other additives. It contains the perfect balance of minerals and trace elements and it unmatched in flavor.  Celtic Sea Salt is a beneficial addition to most diets. The composition of our blood plasma, lymphatic fluid and extra cellular fluid all mirror the chemical balance of the ocean water from which it is derived.  The human body uses the minerals and trace elements in Celtic Sea Salt to create electrolytes, maintaining these "internal oceans" which are vital to proper functioning of every system of the body.
Famed Medical doctor Christine Norothrup, MD was  quoted saying
"many illness are caused or exacerbated by trace mineral deficiencies.  These can be avoided by the liberal use of celtic sea salt in your cooking and the complete avoidance of all other salts."

On a personal note, since adding Celtic Sea Salt into my diet I have noticed a great reduction in cancer and cold sores which I tend to get alot in the winter months.  My body is saying YYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS.  Oh and I wanted to warn you that at first you my be  put off by the price but if you look at this salt as  a nutritional supplement rather than just a seasoning....you will not complain and see the great value in it.

ONCE YOU TRY IT, there's no going back!!  LIVE WELL, LOVE PURELY

HARMFUL EFFECTS OF FLUORIDE

Many of us were brought up being taught that FLUORIDE is what keeps us from getting cavities. We are constantly being told by our family dentist to use FLUORIDE enriched mouthwashes. Even I got caught up in the false hype. Well let me shed some info I have found on Fluoride and you can decide for yourself if its worth the chance.

A short blog to get the info out there. Independent studies now have confirmed that high levels of mercury are found in high fructose corn syrup.  REAL NICE.  And we are supposed to believe those new commercials trying to convince as how safe it is.  God I want to gag every time I see it on TV.  Remember KNOWLEDGE= POWER.  Go online and research this on google or elsewhere, and I post more detailed info later.  I am in awe and wanting to share this info with the world.  Beware and read the labels with a more concerned eye.  PEACE AND LOVE

Divine Nectar: MY RECIPE FOR A TRIDOSHIC FASTING KICHARI

Divine Nectar: MY RECIPE FOR A TRIDOSHIC FASTING KICHARI

MY RECIPE FOR A TRIDOSHIC FASTING KICHARI

In India when one starts a cleansing program it usually involve something called Kichari.  In is a simple mixture of mung bean dal and rice with specific seasonings to balance the body and the DOSHAS.  It is very easy for the body to digest and allows your digestion a chance to rest, relax and recharge.  I highly recommend this recipe as it is aimed for all three doshas, VATA, PITTA AND KAPHA doshas and is very healing for the body.....and delicious.

DIGESTIVE TRIDOSHIC KICHARI ( prep time 1 hour).

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 tablespoons ghee
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1/2 teaspoon tumeric
1/2 sea salt
1 stick kombu (optional)
1 teaspoon fresh ginger root
1/2 cup basmati rice
1/4 cup split mung dal
4-6 cups filtered water

Wash the rice and bean until water is clear.
Warm ghee in medium saucepan. Add the cumin seeds, bay, coriander. Brown slightly, until
aromatic. Stir tumeric, rice, and dal.  Add water, salt and kombu and ginger.  Simmer covered over medium heat until beans and rice are soft.

During a 21 cleanse in INDIA this is what you eat exclusively for the entire cleanse.  Try it for a day, a week, a month.  NAMASTE

NUTRITION FROM AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

The ancients offered ten principles about a healthy diet and how it is to be eaten.  They are:

1) Food needs to be warm (usually cooked).

2)Food needs to be tasty and easy to digest.

3)Food needs to be eaten in the proper amounts.

4)Food needs to be eaten on an empty stomach, after your last meal has been digested and not before.

5)Foods  needs to be eaten in  pleasant surroundings with no talking or T.V.

6)Foods need to work together and not contradict one another in their actions.

7)Eating should never be rushed and should always be sitting down, never standing.

8)It is best to be conscious and aware of the food and chewing while eating.

9)Only eat food which is nourishing to your particular constitution and which suits your mental and emotional temperament.

10) Most importantly always say a meal prayer before eating your food and never drink cold liquids with your meal as it dilutes the digestion process, creating AMA in the system.

These concepts may seem obvious, and yet if you think  back over the last few days of eating, you are likely to find at least a few or many examples of eating different from these.  Of all the elements essential for the maintenance of positive health, food taken in the proper quanity is regarded as most important.  IN AYURVEDA, food is medicine as well as nourishment and what one eats and  how it is eaten is of the upmost importance to health and well being.  I encourage everyone to to try and implement as many of these basis AYURVEDIC principles in every day life.  Until next time. PEACE

ION "ITS ONLY NATURAL"/VEGAN AND RAW FOOD

Just wanted to give ION in Middletown the proper shout out. Their food and integrity of ingredients is off the charts. As mentioned in my previous blog they use all organic and local farm grown ingredients and is slowing becoming the mecca for RAW FOOD enthusiasts and vegan/gluten-free clients. Their desserts are almost orgasmic and well worth the drive alone. They have weekly events including local artists, intuitive readings and ongoing lectures and cooking classes on RAW cooking and organic vegan gourmet cuisine. The owner and chef MARK SHADLE is an inspiration to me on so many levels. He walks the talk and lives himself on an organic farm in DURHAM CT. He drives a car that runs fully on the veggie grease that he gets from the restaurant. He also uses many ingredients and herbs from is own farm in his menu items and you can definitely feel the love poured in the food....one stir at a time. I love love love this restaurant. And even if you are not vegan the food can stand up to the toughest meat eater. Try the veggie crab cakes, sweet potato fries and the tease cake for dessert and thank me later. www.ionrestaurant.com

MANY BENEFITS OF ASHWAGANDA

I have been studying the origins of AYURVEDA for years and in particular the huge impact of the herbal formulas have had on my life and over all health. The herb I would like to focus on today is ASHWAGANDA, when translated loosly means the "STRENGTH OF 10 HORSES" implying that this aromatic herb provides the strength of a stallion....sounds good right????
Ashwaganda is among the most important herbs in the Ayurvedic pharmacy. It is sometimes referred to as the "Indian Gingseng" for its reputed restorative benefits. It has traditonal use in supporting rejuvenation after illness and as a sexual enhanser for both men and woman. Ashwanganda is also classified as an adaptogen, which means it helps modify the harmful effects on stress in the body and it wonderful for depression and insomnia. With its benefical influence on the nervous system, it is often prescibed for people with chronic fatigue, difficulty in concentrating and a general sense of ungroundness. Mixed with warm milk and taken before bed it will help with anxiety and restlessness. It works great for kids as well.
In patients facing cancer, ashwaganda can be a extemely valuable ally as people are attempting to regain their energy and strength.

The usual dosage is 600-1000 mgs twice daily. A tablet or capsule of powdered ashwaganda crushed in hot milk and sweetened with honey will enhance its sedating qualities.
You can easily find it at http://www.banyonbotanicals.com/ for the purest organic ingredients....but I have seen it by Planetary Formulations at Whole Foods in capsule form. It is definatley worth a try and has helped me immensely as I have been recovering with my battle with LYMES.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES FOR MIND BODY HEALING

Did you know that flowers can heal? Yes, their brilliant shapes and colors warm the soul and their scents bring life to the senses--but there's more to flowers than just their physical attributes.

Like everything on earth, flowers have energy and that energy can be harnessed to effecuate changes in the body through remedies such as those designed by Dr. Bach. Similar to homeopathy, Bach's flower remedies use the energy of substances to heal, with the difference that Bach flowers impart the desired energy of a substance into the body, rather than a substance of what is causing a person to ail (as in homeopathy). Both approachs work, however and the desired substance of the Bach flowers are energies that creat positive or "higher" states of being, which alter a person's state of mind, thereby creating a healing effect on the entire body.

Dr. Bach believed that all illness originates from a disconnect between our personality and soul (or higher self) and that by bringing the self into a line with the soul, the body will resond by healing. This is accomplished by giving the body flowers that creat a state of mind that is opposite to that which is causing the problem in the mind and body. The most effective treatments are those that address the root cause of the emotionsm thoughts and beliefs. For instance, a person may be fearful, but beacause various flower remedies exist for treating fearm it is important to know why the fear persists...different flowers address different causes of fear.

Once you understand how the flowers work and are able to discern which ones would best suit you, you can prescibe a regimen for yourself, WITHOUT the help of a specialist. This can be accomplished by studying the troublesome character traits, belief systems, symptoms and feelings that each specific flower addresses and then preparinga remedy by correlating your symptoms with that appropriate information. Don't worry unlike pharmaceutical medications, the flowers are gentle and have no side effects, so go ahead and try them.

To find out more info go to www.bachflowers.com or they can also be bought at your local health food store. Happy Flowering....... until next time

PHYSIC SURGERY WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

I under went phychic surgery while Brasil and will write more in detail once I have processed the experience more fully. I will say this much, there is NOTHING LIKE THIS ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES OR IN THE WORLD!!!!
People from all over the world, with all kind of health malodies- flock to Brasil to have this form of treatment. Basically, it is all done in the astral plane, there are NO INCISIONS, NO CUTTING AND NO TOOLS USED. Medical doctors who are also highly spiritual mediums, channel spirits and use the information they are given during the surgery to prescibe directly to the patient and are also given the guidance of where the illness lies in the body. They make incisions by lightly touching the body as if their fingers were a medical scapel and remove anything from the body that is causing it to be ill. I also saw people there who were using it for broken bones, cancer treatments, children with rare dieases ect.
I was able to have my eyes open during the whole surgery, when I was done with my surgery, there was a reddish brown substance on my dress which resembled blood. I WAS FREAKED OUT OF COARSE. And the medium reassured me this substance was called ECTOPLASM and is very common when the surgen removes negative energy any illness in the body. I am clear that i did not see him put anything on my dress and after the surgery it was quite clear to me, that SOMETHING EXTRORDINARY HAD OCCURRED. More to write later, as I have been directed to lay down and rest for post-op recovery for 24 hours. I will research this in much greater detail, as i am sure that there are many people and cients of mine especially with chronic illness that will benefit from this experience and I HOPE TO HELP AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN. peace

VIVA BRASIL

DAY ONE and Brasil is by far the most amazing natural beauty I have ever experienced in all of my worldly travels. The energy down here is intense to say the least and the energy frequency of this place and the people is intense, in the most wonderful way. We began a bit of our filming today but are in route deeper in to nature (CAN WE SAY, JUNGLE ANYONE!!) We are somewhere between Sao Paolo and RIO..in a town called ITAMONTE. This place is known for its healing springs, miraclous waterfalls and crystals which you can find just walking along any path in nature. (quartz, amethyst, citrin just about any type of gem, just lying on the ground untouched). HOW AMAZING IS THAT????? MUCH MORE TO COME....

BOOTY-LICIOUS YOGA PANTS

If I had a dollar for every person who stopped me and asked me where I got my pants , I'd be a millionaire by now.
So for all you beautiful goddesses out there who love comfort but also like to look smokin hot....check out BALI DOG CLOTHING at http://www.balidog.com/. They specialize in Yoga and Sportswear clothing that are all hand stitched and hand painted in Bal with devotional designs that are absolutely beautiful. The pants that I am obsessed with are the BUDDA STYLE and have both THE CHAKRA DESIGN and THE SHIVA artwork on the black pant. Although the artwork is done in Bali, the pants are made in Brazil, so this means the are a TIGHT, TIGHT FIT, so definatley go up one size. They are 98% organic cotton, 2% lycra for a great fit and let me tell you, they look faboulous and make every back side look BOOTY-LIOUS. And from the practical point of view, they wash well, don't wrinkle and don't shrink. They are great for yoga, weekend outtings and can be dressed up or down.
If you want to get noticed and rock some beautiful art on your body, these are the pants for you.

LIVER CLEANSING WITH BEETS AND COFFEE

Okay, so you don't do coffee....coffee enemas, that is. Would you change your mind if I told that you could get whole lotta stones and gunk out of your liver with just a few Organic Colombian beans, a carrot,a cucumber and a couple of beets???? Sounds healthy and harmless enough doesn't it??
I know it's no fun learning to work with that rubber hose and hot water bottle (aks an enema bag) plus all the questions from family members who wonder why you are taking that pot of coffee into the bathroom, but hey, it's a sqeaking clean liver worth it???
Btw, you are fooling yourself if you think your liver isn't loaded with stones...the liver is where gall stones come from.

Anyway, so here it is.
Juice a couple of beets, a carrot and a cucumber( I happen to love ENGLISH CUCUMBERS the most...I know a very special person in my life that can testify personally). Take some organic lemon juice and olive oil for a greater effect. Half and half mixture, what ever you can tolerate, as it is a little hard getting it down. Don't eat other foods for several hours prior as it will diminish the effect. Brew the coffee. Use fresh organic and filtered water. (And don't take it in while hot! Add a cup of cool water to every cup of hot coffee).
Lay on your back and flush the colon with filtered warm water first. Then lay on your back or side and drain the coffee into the colon, retaining for at least 10 minutes or longer if possible. If you don't hear much activity down in your gut, try using more coffee in the brew. I use 2 to 3 tbsp per cup, but for some this may be too much. In any case, stay near your best friend john for awhile after the enema....
You should feel lighter and more energetic after this cleanse. For best results do 2 to 3 times monthly. This also a great detox and preperation for any colonic regime you are planning.
Your enema bag will soon become your second best friend. Cleanse well...until next time.
