EATING WITH THE SEASONS

If you want food that's good for your health, kind to the environment and busting with flavor---then reconnect with the seasons.  Seasonal foods brings variety to our plates.   Its important to eat a wide range of different foods to ensure we get all the different nutrients we need.  Growing and raising seasonal foods encourages traditional agricultural methods, biodiversity and a better environment.  Plus, it promotes better tasting foods. When you see a tomatoes in the store in the middle of winter, keep in mind these are not "natural" and by purchasing them you're compromising taste and the health of our planet.  So the answer is  EAT WITH THE SEASONS

SPRING: This is the time for tender, leafy vegetables. The green new growth that blooms in the spring time should be represented my the greens on your plate, including Swiss chard, spinach, romaine lettuce and fresh herbs like parsley and basil. Also enjoy asparagus ( the worlds most alkaline food), cabbages, cauliflower, fennel, grapefruit and navel oranges.

SUMMER: Enjoy light, cooling fruits like strawberries, pears, plums, apricots, blackberries, nectarines, peaches, limes and melons.  Vegetables like summer squash, broccoli, cauliflower, red onions, cucumbers and fresh corn.  Spices like peppermint and cilantro are great choices.

AUTUMN:  Go for warming autumn harvest foods like carrots, onion, garlic, grapes, Valencia oranges, Asian pears. Emphasize the more warming spices and seasoning like ginger, mustard seeds and peppers.

WINTER:  Most root vegetables, including carrots, beets, rutabagas, onions, leeks, parsnip, pumpkin, turnips, brussel sprouts, garlic and nuts. Enjoy lemons, mandarins, tangerines, broccoli and grapefruit.

THINK GLOBAL, SHOP LOCAL FOR YOUR FOODS IN SEASON.  PACHU MAMA AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE THANKING YOU!!!!!!!

THE ANCIENT SUPERFOOD OF THE AZTECS

A new super food product I just connected with is called MILA, the miracle seed.
Its 100% raw sprouted CHIA SEED and what a difference it has made in my digestion, overall energy and health.  Mila is a proprietary selection of SALAVIA HISPANICA L- a uniquely beneficial seed a complete food by the FDA and backed by almost 20 years of scientific and agricultural research.  MILA contains the highest levels of nutritional components- Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytonutrients.  As an added benefit, Mila is gluten free, trans fat free, sugar free and high in fiber and protein.  Mila  can be deliciously combined with a variety of foods and its supreme biological properties are not diminished by heat in the cooking process.  Mila is one the world's healthiest whole foods.  It tastes like flax meal, so it can be sprinkled on salads, put into to a smoothie or even eaten by the spoon full. WARNING.. because of its extremely high fiber content, make sure you are getting enough water in daily until your body gets used to it.  If you don't, you may get a bit constipated and that its no good.  Just another incentive to  drive home the point, we need more water in our diet anyways, so heres another reason why..........

THE BLESSINGS OF COCONUT WATER

Did you know that coconut water has 20 times the electrolytes found in the leading sports drink?....minus all the junk and sugar.

Did you know that coconut water has more potassium than two bananas?  Potassium keeps your body properly hydrated and prevents cramping.

Pure coconut water is undeniably the most nutritious and delicious beverage you could ever ask for.  When I was down in BRASIL, this is what I lived on.  But happily I saw that WHOLE FOODS is not carrying the VITA COCO brand which is imported from brasil.  It is 100% fresh young coconut water with nothing added.  It is all about hydration and your cells and skin will sing after trying coconut water for about a day or two. After life is the most strenuous sport there  is... so we might as well give ourselves all the electrolytes and minerals we can in the most joyous and enjoyable way we can, and I SAY COCONUT WATER IS IT.  And as a side note coconut water can be used as a cooling enema for PITTA TYPES.  If anyone has questions about this, email me or ask here on the blog.  LIVE ON

DOES ANYONE STILL CRAVE MAC & CHEESE??

If you are like me, and many of my clients, we have all made the health commitment to go GLUTEN/WHEAT FREE and DAIRY FREE.  And the first thing that come to mind for me was, "OHHHH MY GOD NO PIZZA AND NO MORE MAC AND CHEESE??"  Ok so yes, I still have the same love of these comfort foods as when I was a kid, but the wonderful news is that we don' t have to deprive ourselves of either of these things anymore.  I will get back to you with my DIVINE NECTAR  GLUTEN FREE PIZZA.... today I want to share with you a quick recipe that combines my love of RAW LIVE FOOD  and cooked food.  It is quick and satisfying, give it a try.  The LIVE/CHEESE SUBSTITUTE which I like to call RAW-MESIAN.
In  a food processor grind organic walnuts and sunflowers to a fine texture.  Add equal portions of nutritional yeast and celtic sea salt to taste.  Seriously thats it.  You can keep this in a glass jar with shaker top and keep in the fridge and use on anything and everything.

Now for the pasta.  Take any brown or white rice paste( and yes, I prefer brown over white 100 times).  Once cooked, drain and while still warm, add ample amounts of the RAWMESIAN, a hint of braggs amino acids for extra taste and stir.  Add enough of the RAWMESIAN to create a creamy cheese like texture. And enjoy.  Love on, Live on, Dance on.  Peace beautiful ones.

GET YOUR GREEN ON, GREEN DRINK

By consuming a green smoothie, you are blending the greens- which in essence is "predigesting" the greens. Many of the important nutrients in greens are encased inside the plants cells and getting their benefits requires these cell walls to be ruptured. So blending allows these foods to be ingested as a whole vegetable with their fiber in tact (as opposed to juicing), so you feel full and are able to absorb the maximum amount of nutrition from your greens.
So go ahead and GET YOUR GREEN ON PEOPLE.

1 1/2 cups filtered water
1 head of romaine lettuce chopped
3 or 4 stalks of organic celery
2 organic apples, cored
1 organic banana
1/3 bunch of organic parsley
1/3 bunch of organic cilantro
juice from 1/2 lemon

Add water and lettuce to high speed blender.  Start on low, mix until smooth. Move yo higher speed and add apples, celery and herbs...add banana and lemon last. LIVE WELL AND BE HAPPY

MONDAY AM DETOX SMOOTHIE INSTEAD OF A CUP O JOE

Try making this detox smoothie for breakfast to start your week off feeling more cleansed and refreshed.  Or better yet, try for 3 days during the week for a nice liver booster. The lemon and oil help restore the liver, while the turmeric is full of antioxidants and anti microbial properties and is an amazing blood purifier. The cleaner the blood the more beautiful the skin.
